What sets Need for Speed: Underground (NFSU) apart from the trend of street racing titles is that it delivers on what we fell in love with at the movies� glamour. Slick, tricked-out cars, custom paint jobs, and crowded cites that seem devoid of law enforcement.

After a successful run on the console market NFSU is power-sliding to PC and none too soon. When compared to the X-box version (graphically and control wise) I�m hard pressed to tell the difference, and when a game goes from console to PC it�s definately a good thing. Too often that kind of move ends up clunky or far too taxing to your system than it should be (*cough* Halo!*cough*), or the controls are awkwardly assigned to the keyboard (Final Fantasy 11). Though if you have a gamepad I suggest busting it out.

Graphically its almost identical to the X-box version, which is to say it looks good. Except for on the cars, textures are given a little less detail in trade for an all over sleeker look. I say it�s a fair trade since most of the background will be whipping by at 100mph (or about 160kph for our Canadian friends) its not likely you�re going to notice.

The most impressive aspect of the graphics are the lighting and reflective surfaces. These are noticeably used more for mood than realism, giving the game that sleek sexy look that makes us all shift into first.

The demo is very short. One car, one song, and one track, and besides online play, that�s about it. Then again it�s a racing demo, so it�s really all you need to get the feel of what the full version is like.

The demo opens with the far too appropriate for me �Born too slow� by The Crystal Method, and a running splash screen of the car you�ll be driving, the Nissan 350z.

While you will see other drivers sporting the Toyota Supra and Mitsubishi Eclipse, you unfortunately are only allowed the Nissan.

While the game is a blast, it did remind me how absolutely terrible I am at racing games. However EA realizes that people who suck are gamers too, and have treated us to a feature that will take you to a cinema style view that displays the symphony of flying wreckage that occurs when, say, your friend B-dog decides he wants to run you off the road.

It defiantly makes crashing feel like more of an accomplishment rather than a testament of bad driving. This cinema style view also kicks in when you perform jumps or skilled power-slides. It�s just a feature we can all enjoy.

In the end you�re going to get a good feel of what to expect from the full version when it releases, but more importantly you�re going to be left with a need�
