The second installment brings a myriad of gameplay improvements while maintaining the traditional sleek and sophisticated style of its predecessor.

New to the series is the addition of a free-roaming mode, something seriously needed to break the mission-based structure of the first game. The demo allows you to take the Nissan 350Z out for a spin and challenge other racers. When an opponent accepts a challenge, a follow-the-leader game ensues where the lead car tries to lose its opponent. Whoever manages to distance more than 1000 feet wins.

The free-roam map also permits you to travel to the specialty shop, but content is limited. Your car selection is also limited to the Nissan 350Z series, however, there has to be something to look forward to!

The Quick Race mode in the demo is the same as the first game with one notable exception. You can now replenish your nitrous when performing finesse moves, such as drifting around turns or drafting off an opponent. The nitrous appears to drain faster now, so skillful driving is a necessity.

The Drift Race mode now takes place on a road with traffic, making it more difficult than the parking deck versions in the first game. Thankfully, your opponent�s final scores are revealed at the start of the race so you know how many points you need, to win.

Underground 2 is gorgeous, but that has come to be expected from the series. Some gameplay aspects remain the same as the original. The controls are still simple to learn, although cars tend to slide more. The limited music in the demo is solid, although there are only three songs. The physics remain the same as well, with catastrophic crashes doing no damage to your vehicle, which is a disappointment.

Overall, the demo shows a lot of promise for the full version and is a definite recommendation for all arcade racing fans.
