Red Alert Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
11 Ocak 2009 – 21:15
Tiberian Sun showcases a few enhancements to the Command and Conquer engine, like dynamic lighting and kinetic battlefield explosions, but veterans of the previous games will not notice anything revolutionary.
There is no 3D acceleration, which after much thought I have decided is a good thing. Leaving 3D out makes the game accessible to just about anyone with a computer, which is certainly a plus for Westwood, who would like to see Tiberian Sun reach the 10 million mark in sales that the original Command and Conquer achieved over several platforms. The graphics are certainly better than the original, especially when the dynamic lighting is taken into account, though the primary units themselves leave a bit to be desired. In some ways, they look worse than the original. This seems odd, but it doesn’t take away from the game as a whole.
Westwood were also smart to not tinker too much with the gameplay. Instead of changing it, they enhanced it, and it remains as addictive as the first, if not more so. You feel one with this game, and are instantly thrust into the focus of your missions. These missions are similar to the original; you have to mine Tiberium for resources, squash your competitor, and rescue hostages and civilians. There are some missions that are much more specific than this, but I don’t want to spoil it by telling you what they are. I’ll just say that the missions feel well thought out, and there wasn’t one I played that left me disappointed. This game is a true hour-burner, and a game that was supposed to last an hour went on for three before I even noticed. The game is fast-paced, like a real-time game should be, and it’s exciting, like many games these days aren’t.
This demo contains one tutorial map, and then a second map full of C&C action after you’ve learned the ropes.
